Namo Buddha

Namo Buddha is an important Buddha pilgrimage site in the Kathmandu Valley. It is said to be the location where, in a previous life, before being born as the Śakyamuni and attaining Buddhahood, the bodhisattva gave his own life to nurture a starving tiger and her cubs. In so doing, he demonstrated the immense compassion and generosity that are among the character perfections (pāramitā) that Buddhists must cultivate as part of the path to enlightenment. The event is commemorated by an historical stupa (chaitya) and also by a large, new monastery complex (Thrangu Tashi Yangtse monastery).
